About Us
We are a group of high schoolers working in San Diego, California. This non profit organization was founded with the goals of raising social awareness and educating youth about climate change, one of the most urgent issues people are currently facing this century. Today’s youth has the power to influence others around them including friends and family, and they are also future leaders who will have huge influence over large groups of people as well as public policy.
Global warming is the biggest threat of the century. More frequent hurricanes, wildfires, and heatwaves, droughts, less biodiversity, and rising sea level are all a result of climate change. When the Earth gets four degrees warmer, most of the world will be turned into deserts including part of the United States.
The people who are most affected by the impacts of climate change are those people in developing countries. These are also the people who have contributed the least to the issue. Additionally, despite these catastrophic effects, only three in four people believe that global warming is real and only 40% believe that climate change will personally affect them. Even though most people know global warming is real, they think there is nothing they can do about it.
Benjamin Franta (JD, Ph.D., Stanford University) once said at Ted Talk: “Today we are at a moment in history that is a deciding point that will change the world for centuries to come. How we react is of course up to each of us and there is no single correct answer, but perhaps the correct question is this– In this turning point in history, one that won’t come again, what would you do?” Today, we would like to ask you the same question: “What would you do?”
